Desiré Alexander | artist
Hello, I am Desiré. A solo mom of three busy boys, a cosmetologist, small business owner, and artist. I’m a member of the North River Art Society, as well, spent some time at UMASS Dartmouth and SCAD studying art. Whether it is painting rocks with my boys, styling hair, or diving into a landscape painting, creativity is part of my daily life in one way or another.
For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for creativity and a love for art. As a girl I would paint alongside my mother or watch her while she put together a beautiful floral arrangement. Noticing the smell of fresh cut flowers and her green stained fingers. I would watch my grandmother as she crocheted the most delicate premature baby booties, hats, and sweaters. Taking in the smell of her famous apple crisp and her hand written recipe cards and notes; admiring their thoughtful and perfectly scrolled words and letters, which I still cherish today.
Then when I was older, my high school art teacher’s dramatic and deep approach to art continued to impress upon and inspire me to appreciate life in fine detail; the colors, sounds, feelings, and smells. Resulting in the sensitive, thoughtful, and precisely creative individual I am today.
Art has become such a big part of who I am. It is where I find my peace. I hope, in turn, my art will provide the same to others by giving them a way to see something differently or forever cherish a beloved pet, place, time, or even a feeling.
After all art is not only meant to be seen, it is meant to heal the soul.
